Forbidden Kisses

When loving the wrong person is a punishable offense.

When Navy pilot, Ethan Parker falls for the woman he met at a coffee shop, he knows she’s the one he’s waited his entire life for. She’s sensual, sassy and smart. What he doesn’t know is she’s also in the Navy, and her enlisted rank means a relationship with her could get him discharged from military service.

While on leave from teaching at a top Naval facility, Layla Matthews tumbles head-over-heels for the sexiest man she’s encountered in a long time. The fact that he can hold an intelligent conversation is an added bonus. Her world is turned upside down when she later discovers he’s a Navy lieutenant. A senior officer. Her new boss. Definitely off-limits.

Continuing their relationship could ruin their military careers. Ending it would break both their hearts. Will they end their sizzling romance or keep it a secret… and pray no one finds out?

“What do you think?” She strutted and twirled like a runway model.

“Wow, Layla! You look amazing.”

The slinky black dress was simple, but elegant. Cut just low enough in the front to allow her boobs to tease, and low enough in the back to draw attention to her perfect curves.

“I love it. This is the one.”

“I haven’t even tried the other one yet.”

“You can try it if you like, but this one gets my vote.” As Layla examined her reflection, I placed my hand on her ass, sliding up and down over the velvet fabric. “If you do get this one, I won’t be able to keep my hands off you.”

Her luscious lips curved into a flirtatious smile. “Then maybe I will get it.” She looked at the price tag. “Or maybe not. Ethan, this dress is ridiculously expensive.”

“And you’re worth every penny.”

“I should give you half. Or we can go to a less expensive store.”

It was time to put my foot down. “Layla! I’m buying you a dress. Now, go try on the other one if you want, but we’re leaving here with one of them.”

“And when you’re done, pick out some shoes.”

She darted back to the fitting room.

“And lingerie,” I called after her. “Do you know they have panties that you can actually eat?”

While I waited for Layla to try on the second dress, the sales clerk who’d helped us earlier showed me a pearl necklace with matching earrings. I looked over my shoulder to see if Layla was ready to model the next dress. She hadn’t come out yet, but what caught my eye caused a knot to form in the pit of my stomach. What. The.. F***.

My heart pounded, forcing panic through my veins with every beat. I stood, paralyzed with fear, as Commander Murphy strode right toward me. What was he doing here? We were several miles away from the base. I hadn’t considered the possibility of running into someone who knew us.

“Parker! How’s it going?”

I shook his outstretched hand and prayed he couldn’t detect the sweat on my palm.

“I’m good, Sir, how are you?”

“As good as can be expected. What brings you to this neck of the woods?”

“Oh. I, um… I’m picking up a gift. For a friend.” That wasn’t a lie… except Layla was much more than a friend. I tried to appear relaxed in spite of the alarming thoughts flooding my mind. Reduced pay. Reduced rank. Captain’s Mast. Dishonorable discharge. Confinement. “What about you, Sir?”

“I just received news last night that my brother passed away. We’re flying to New York in just a few hours.”

“I’m sorry for your loss, Sir. Please let me know if there’s anything I can do.” I had to calm my breathing, or he’d know something was up. A casual glance to my left showed no activity near the fitting room.

His brow furrowed. “Actually, now that you mention it, there is. I’ve been working out the details for an upcoming operation. I’d hate for my impromptu travel plans to impede the mission.” He took a step closer to me and continued in a lower voice. “You’re the only one with the security clearance to access it.”

“Say no more, Sir. I’ll take care of it.”

“Great. I really appreciate your help.”

I stole another glance toward the fitting room, hoping Layla would stay put for a while. Please let the zipper be stuck. When a squeaky door hinge announced Layla’s exit from the dressing room, my heart hammered wildly, forcing panic through my veins with every beat. Holy s***. This was it. The end of my career.

Meet The Characters

Layla Matthews

What is your most prized possession?

My mustang. It’s blue with white racing stripes. And it’s fast!

What are you most afraid of?

Losing Ethan. I mean, I’m not afraid he’ll leave me for someone else, because seriously, I rock his world… What? I do. *smiles* He says my honey is the sweetest he’s ever had. *Smile is replaced with a look of concern. But aside from the obvious threat of being forced to give him up, there’s the fact that… he’s a pilot. At the end of each day, I wait for a text from him so I know his training operations went okay. But I know there will come a time when his flights are not just for training. He’ll go up against an enemy to protect all of us. I’m aware of the risk. It’s what we do. Hell, it’s what we signed up for. But I honestly don’t know what I’d do if he didn’t come back to me.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I wish I were better able to communicate and express my feelings. I frequently find it difficult to get the right words out at the right time. It sometimes leads to misunderstanding and hurt. But, I’m working on it.

Ethan Parker

What is your most prized possession?

I can’t say Layla, can I? I’m kidding… kind of. How about my relationship with Layla… will that work? Oh, I do have some trophies and basketball gear that belonged to my best friend, RJ. His parents gave them to me after he died.

What are you most afraid of?

The two areas of my life which I’m most focused on right now are my career and my bond with Layla. I’m afraid that one day I’ll do something to mess up either of those.  Especially Layla. The Navy trained me to do my job, but no one trained me in relationships – how to keep from losing my temper or how not to be an ass. That’s learned as you go… like what we call OJT – on the job training.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

My need for control. I have a tendency to step up and deal with issues as they arise, without stopping to talk to others who may be affected. My friends call me a control freak, and maybe I am a little. But I believe in stepping up and doing what needs to be done. if I have a solution to a problem, I put a plan into action. That’s what a leader does. But I’m learning that I sometimes need to coordinate with others involved, instead of just taking control.
