Book Spotlight – Kai by Michelle Abbott #characterinterview
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
My name is Kai Okamoto. I deal drugs. Trade escapism for cold, hard cash.
Born to a British mother and a Japanese father, I grew up poor, hungry, and alone. Hiding from the monsters at our door. The debt collectors.
I’ve worked hard to escape my past. I’m not that frightened little boy anymore. I’m wealthy, secure, and sure of myself. At least I was, until I met Lily.
Lily is a good girl. The kind of girl I should stay away from. I should, but I can’t.
I hate lying to her, but if she finds out who I am, what I do. I won’t see her for dust.
A standalone, bad boy romance, set in England.
Character Interview with Kai:
What impression do you make on people when they first meet you?
They’re afraid of me for some reason.
How about after they’ve known you for a while?
I hope they think I’m loyal, loving, spontaneous, and witty.
What is your profession?
Drug dealer, but if you tell anyone, I’ll deny it.
Tell me about your best friend.
My German shepherd, Duke. He’s loving, loyal, and an excellent guard dog.
Describe your ideal mate.
Lily is my ideal mate. We have lots in common. She’s able to lighten up and have fun, but can be serious and responsible when she needs to be. I can talk to her about anything, except what I do for a living! She’s affectionate, and loyal.
What’s the most important thing in your life?
Besides my mum, and Lily? Money.
Your thoughts on love?
Not something I thought about much, until I met Lily. My mum and dad split before I was born. He didn’t even know she was pregnant. She still loves him. Maybe he still loves her. Lily is my first love, and I plan on her being my last.
Your greatest extravagance?
Buying my home.
Is there anything you haven’t done that you want to do?
Travel to Japan to find my father. I’ve been teaching myself Japanese.
Your quirky habits?
None I can think of. I guess I’m just boring J
What quality do you like most in a man/woman
Mental strength, not letting life beat them down.
What trait do you most despise?
What are you most afraid of?
That Lily will find out I’m a dealer, and leave me.
What do you value the most?
My family, Lily, and money.
What would you consider your perfect night out?
A meal at my local Italian, and spending the night with Lily.
What was your first thought or impression when you met the person you fell in love with?
I met Lily right after she’d been mugged. At first I felt sorry for her, so I hung around to make sure she was okay. She was defensive with me, which I found amusing. I was determined to win her over.
What would you change about the person you fell in love with?
I’d like her to have more faith in herself.
What do you like most about the person you fell in love with?
She can find joy in the smallest, most simple things.
What would you change about yourself?
I’d be born rich!
Michelle Abbott lives in the UK and hates describing herself in 3rd person.
She’s a self-published author who loves to write new adult romance about heroes who begin as the underdog and are protective of their girl.
She’s an avid reader of romance, is addicted to coffee and loves wine and chocolate, so yeah, not the most healthy eating and drinking habits 🙂 She spends way too much time online when she should be writing. She collects teddy bears and occasionally knits a couple of rows on a sweater she started years ago, which she may eventually finish in time to wear for her funeral 🙂
