Book Spotlight – Only a Hero Will Do and Author Interview with Alanna Lucas
Only A Hero Will Do by Alanna Lucas
Defender of the realm…and his wary heart…
Captain Grant Alexander is an enigma in London society. Dashing and handsome, he coldly eschews marriage. But the ton knows nothing of his role in the Legion: to bring Typhon, the traitor who seeks to destroy the British monarchy, to justice.
When Grant is thrown together with fellow Legion member Elizabeth Atwell, he’s instantly beguiled yet exasperated by this beautiful viscount’s daughter. She has little interest in combing the marriage mart for a well-bred, well-heeled husband, but is adept at code-breaking and handling a bow and arrow. She also refuses to do as she is told, insisting she accompany Grant on his mission.
As Typhon continues to evade capture and dark forces are at work, Grant realizes he must act, not only to protect the realm but Elizabeth too…not to mention his heart, which is in danger of thawing every time she comes close…
Author Interview with Alanna Lucas
How many books have you written?
I just published my 11th book! However, there are quite a few stashed in the darkest deepest depths of my computer hoping to one day be revised 😉
How did you come up with the idea for your book?
Only a Hero Will Do is one of nine stories in The Heart of a Hero series, where each author tells the story of a man or woman who is a hero in all senses of the word. Here’s the series blurb:
What if your favorite superheroes had Regency-era doppelgangers? And what if a group of them were recruited by the Duke of Wellington to gather intelligence for him during the Napoleonic Wars while they protected their own parts of the realm?
You’d get The Heart of a Hero series.
Who are your favorite authors?
Kathleen Woodiwiss and Sabrina Jeffries are two of my favorite romance authors, but one of my all-time favorite authors is Alexandre Dumas (The Count of Monte Cristo is my favorite book!)
When you develop characters do you already know who they are before you begin writing or do you let them develop as you go?
I spend a lot of time getting to know them in my head, so I know quite a lot about them before I even write a single word.
Are your characters based on people you know?
Shh, don’t tell, but sometimes they are 😉
What has been one of your most rewarding experiences as an author?
I can’t choose just one, so… connecting with readers, holding my book in my hands, and being able to share the journey with my family.
What do you do when you’re not writing?
For the last several months my life has revolved around packing up one house and waiting for the next to be ready to move into (there was so much work to be done!). In between packing and moving, I spend time with my family 🙂
Do you like music or silence when your write?
When I’m brainstorming, I need music (every book has a playlist and a favorite song). When I write, I need quiet (or Beethoven).
Do you outline or do you just write?
I write scene ideas, then just write, write, write!
Do you prefer pen and paper or computer?
I always keep a journal for each book and prefer to write while brainstorming. When it is time to write, I use a computer.
What is your next project?
Well…my daughter just finished reading Only a Hero Will Do and is begging me to begin Sir Simon’s story. I think I might indulge her 😉
